Plastic sugery

The number of plastic surgery patients has increased recently in Spain. Our country is one of the three places in the world where this kind of operations are becoming normal among young people , according to an article I read in a newspaper this week. Italy and Brazil were the other countries.

The report explains that people who are 30 want a facelift because they say they look too old. They want to look like the models they see in magazines or films.

But this is not the only problem, there are parents who are willing to pay for breast enlargements as a present for their daughters’ 16th birthday or as a prize for getting good marks.

According to the report men now make up 39% of all surgeries performed. The majority of them choose a liposuction followed by implants and breast reduction.

For women the top order is still breast enlargements followed by liposuction and facelifts. But the latest is botox treatment that consists of an injection of a toxin which has the effect of removing lines and wrinkles.

I think that these people aren’t afraid of having an operation or they suffer a sense of insecurity that is stronger than the risks involved in being in an operating theatre. Ten or five years ago there were just the very rich or famous that were concerned about their looks and it was part of their lifestyle and their standard of living because they earned money if they looked nice and beautiful in adverts, interviews…

But nowadays private clinics have seen they can improve their income by creating in all of us the necessity of looking the same as cinema or pop stars. Not only young people have fallen into the trap also adults have fallen because the pay for the operations.

I can find just one advantage, the important advances in plastic surgery are enormous and new techniques can be used in the victims of serious accidents, for example traffic accidents, animal attacks or burns and also when you are suffering from a psychological illness because you have a considerable physical defect. I think it is not worth it to play with your health just only because you want to improve your lips or lose a size.

A great number of plastic surgery patients are really suffering from psychological illnesses.
